Don't Sweat the Small Stuff
I was texting with a friend this morning and catching up on her life and mine. She informed me a couple she is good friends with - husband and wife both 53 years old - have been moved into hospice as they are battling different terminal cancers. That is not that much older than me and truly heartbreaking. She said, “I’ve learned something from this experience of helping my friends at the end of their lives - don’t sweat the small stuff.” Some times we need these reminders to really take stock of what is important and what is not.
Shortly after our conversation, I went to the studio to teach a private session. Three different people all showed up at the same time for a private! Eek!! I had that initial moment of “Oh no!” but given our conversation this morning I took a deep breath and realized this can be fixed. Two of the ladies stayed for a duet and the other switched to tomorrow. While I never like to inconvenience anyone or disappoint anyone - we found a solution that all were happy with.
I was also reminded of a woman I had met and taught the day before. She mentioned she loved pickle ball but had realized her shoulder did not. She found other activities that work for her and keep her active. I think this is a beautiful example of not sweating the small stuff. She could still be sitting at home lamenting giving up pickle ball but instead she accepted it and found a solution.
We are constantly faced with trials and unexpected changes but it’s how we handle them that makes the difference in how we live. Staying stuck in a place of stress and disappointment is not where I want to be. There are two many good opportunities if we keep our eyes open and look for them. I know the change in ownership may be stressful to some of you and I understand. I also hope you won’t sweat the small stuff and will feel comfortable telling me what you need and asking all the questions you have! I am hoping I can build a beautiful relationship with all of you, too!
Being in a new city and a new state and at a new studio - I am confident I, too, will have ‘small stuff’ to figure out. I am grateful to be here and to have this opportunity and that is my focus not lingering in the small stuff. :)
