Happy Birthday SHINE Pilates!

Can you believe it’s been a year??? I’ve been feeling a little nostalgic as I think back to the beginning of Shine Pilates - even before the doors opened. And of course I am feeling incredibly grateful to all of you for helping to make my dream come true, for supporting and loving Shine Pilates, and welcoming me to Lexington!

For those that don’t know, I moved to Lexington on January 14th in the middle of a snowstorm. My movers called that morning and tried to cancel … there may have been some tears involved and a definitely a two hour delay - but they finally came! It was an all day affair moving from TN to KY and into my home and the studio. Shine Pilates was schedule to open the very next day!

Prior to moving, I sold several reformers to my Nashville students opting to upgrade to new equipment for all of you! Unfortunately, everyone across the country must have ordered their new reformers the week before I did - so they were backordered until March! I opened January 15th with one reformer and a couple chairs - prepared to offer privates until the equipment arrived. The next hurdle - realizing two of the five springs for the one reformer I had had disappeared in the move! Fortunately - the movers found them in the truck and overnighted them to me the next day. Despite this rocky beginning, wonderful students started showing up, embracing Pilates and also helping me navigate a new city with lots of suggestions of where I should go and what I should do. It took very little time for me to feel at home and reaffirmed that I had made the right decision to relocate my studio.

Fast-forward now to 12 months in and I’m so pleased with what we have accomplished together! I’m thrilled to have Isabel working with me - if you haven’t taken her class - you should! I’m also pleased to be able to have Jill on our schedule from time to time as everyone loves Jill :)

When I think about what I wanted for our studio and what I felt Lexington could benefit from I had a few key desires:

  1. To create a welcoming space that encouraged progress regardless of a student’s starting point

  2. To establish a Pilates community - building friendships and support among students

  3. To share Pilates with new students and those who may not have been served by other group fitness offerings

  4. To make fitness and health and well-being fun and enjoyable!

I believe we have accomplished all of the above and that makes me so proud, humbled and grateful! Thank you for a wonderful first year and here’s to many more!!
