Want vs Should

I was teaching a Pilates class this morning with a group of lovely regular clients. They know me and my personality and know I like to joke around a bit to encourage them. I also don’t mind their sarcasm in response! Fitness doesn’t have to be stoic and serious.

I made a comment along the lines of, “I know you are going to want to do that series again on the other leg!” My student quickly responded, “Want maybe not but should definitely!”

This weekend I enjoyed watching quite a bit of the US Open Tennis Tournament. I’ve been learning Tennis myself. It was impressive to see these high level athletes giving it their all.

One thing I have noticed is they make the court look so much smaller than it feels when I am playing on it! It’s hard to comprehend the speed and agility with which they are moving. Their instincts as so well honed they know where to be for the next shot which makes it look easier than it is.

Getting Back Up

This past Saturday, I ran an evening trail race at the White Tanks Mountains. The race began at 8pm well after the sun had gone down. This required the use a of headlamp to be able to see the trail. I tested mine out earlier in the day and it seemed to be working just fine. Once it was dark out however, I realized my headlamp while working was not very bright. I probably should have replaced the batteries.

As we wrap up another snowbird season and I come up for air, I realize it’s been a minute since my last blog. It’s something I enjoy doing but when the studio gets so busy, it is something that can be put on hold. We love our snowbirds and miss them when they are gone but now is a chance to play catch up!

Another reason I’ve delayed posting a new blog is because I hurt my back. As a Pilates instructor that is hard to admit!

Coaching

When it comes to health and wellness, through the years I have pursued a slew of certifications, trainings, and opportunities. i’m an ACE certified Trainer, Stott Pilates Instructor, and an IIN Nutrition coach just to name a few. I love learning more and keep adding information to my tool box. You could say it’s something I am passionate about.

With that being said you might think I wouldn’t need a coach to help with my fitness. After all I know how to coach other people so I could just apply that information to myself, right? Well you would be wrong!

Pilates is not

I was recently in Cincinnati visiting friends and family and had the opportunity to take Pllates classes at two different studios. This is something I love to do when I travel. It’s fun to be the student and to try new studios and new teachers. Usually, I have a great experience and walk away with a new cue or new sequence I want to bring back to my studio. And I am happy to report that was the case this weekend. Occasionally, however, I have a less than great experience and I attribute this to the class not really being Pilates!

So what is Pilates?

Celebrate the Small Wins

Recently in the studio i’ve heard the following statements from some of our students:

“I know I’ve only been coming here a month but already my back feels better and I can tell a difference!”

“At the beginning of class I couldn’t come near touching my toes, by the end I was almost there and that makes me think it’s possible!”

“I never thought I’d be able to do a Plank and here I am doing it!”
