Inflation

The other day I went to a concert and bought a bottle of Dasani Water. It was $8.75! I remember when it seemed ridiculous to pay $5 for the same water. It’s no secret that prices have gone up in a lot of places due to inflation. There are some items we just need - like water when you are thirsty. We have to bite the bullet and pay the higher price in these instances.

The rising prices have me contemplating what I am willing to pay for and what now seems not worth it. I like my Starbucks Almond Milk Hot Chocolate from time to time as a treat but now that it’s over $5 … it doesn’t seem worth it to me. I can buy a carton of Almond Milk for under $3 and make my own six times over.

While I love new workout clothes and finding cute leggings or tops, this is not a necessity. I have a closet full of workout clothes. With gas and other necessities double what they used to be a year ago - leggings don’t make the cut.

But there are some areas I am not willing to skimp, cut back or eliminate. Those areas contribute to my health and well-being. I will continue to pay more for organic food. It’s not worth the savings to consume pesticides that impact my gut, my hormones, and more. And I will continue to pay for my fitness - whether that is Tennis lessons, Pilates classes, or my Pilates education online. My fitness is not only about my physical heath. but also my emotional and mental health. Fitness is an outlet for stress and a producer of feel good endorphins.

Cutting out the things that keep me healthy and strong will only lead to more issues down the road. Not prioritizing my health could lead to doctors visits, therapy, and prescriptions. I am choosing to invest in me versus investing in things while prices are high.

At Shine Pilates, we have not raised our pricing in over two years. I am committed to not raising our pricing now despite the fact that our expenses have gone up. I want you to be able to afford to come to Pilates. I want to be able to support you in your wellness goals and needs during this expensive season. Hopefully in the future we’ll see a lessoning in the inflation. For the time being its about priorities. I am choosing my health first!
