Happy Feet
Did you know your feet have twenty six bones …and also more nerve endings than just about any other part of our body? Most of us don’t spend much time thinking about our feet …until they start to hurt. We spend our days with our feet crammed in shoes not able to move or bend or flex. Feet crave movement, too!
Our feet are our foundation. If you feet are off - turned in or turned out or any number of other issues - those issues radiate up the body creating issues in our hips, knees and back, too. Think about it - if you had an issue with the foundation of your house you may find cracks in wall and ceilings, settling and any number of other issues. We need to take good care of our feet so the rest of our body stands a chance!
If you have been to a reformer class - you’ve probably experienced plenty of plantar flexion, and dorsi flexion of the feet. We move our feet a lot and that is a great thing. Some times new students will experience foot cramps because their feet are not used to movement. Over time this improves and goes away.
Spending a few minutes each day curling your toes, extending your toes, rolling your feet on a ball, standing on your tiptoes and doing a calf stretch can do wonders for you feet and can give you happy feet. Taking the time to treat our feet with some care can prevent injury and issues in our feet and also other parts of our body. Don’t wait until your feet hurt to start adding movement into your feet. Start today and have happy feet always!
