One of my least favorite tasks to do when I started my first business was to attend networking events. I did not enjoy the surface small talk and the heavy sales pitch by some. I am not one to promote myself with a heavy hand and it just felt uncomfortable to me. But as a business owner, you check all the boxes and do all the things when you want to succeed.
Read MoreThis weekend I had a friend and fellow Pilates instructor In town visiting me. She also presented our Golf Workshop. For fun on Sunday morning, we went over to Sterling Grove and played the 18 hole putting course. JoAnn is an avid golfer. I can best be described as a beginner with clubs!
Read MoreAbout a week ago, I tried curling for the first time. It was fun and challenging. I love trying new things and having new experiences. If you are not familiar with curling, it takes place on the ice and uses a 40 lb stone slid across the ice. It’s sort of like shuffleboard with a target at the other end and the ability to knock your opponent’s stones out.
During my very first practice throw of the stone, I slide a bit more on the ice than expected and the stone took my arm with it for a bit.
Read MoreThis morning I had planned to go for a run. I had to be somewhere by 10am … so I needed to get my act together to get to the trails, run, get home, shower, and get to my appointment.
I started coming up with my reason why not. I could go later in the day maybe. Maybe I should just take the day off - I had strained my deltoid muscles and wasn’t sure how that would feel running. And the list goes on!
Read MoreI had an interesting conversation yesterday with a couple fellow entrepreneurs. They have had their business for quite a while but built it from the ground up. I did the same in Nashville and in Lexington with my studios. It’s a lot for work and requires discipline, hope, and consistency even when the path may not be smooth.

Recently I’ve had a few new clients in their first session make comments along the lines of “I’m sure I look terrible doing this” and “I’m embarrassed how bad I am at this.” To this I want to ask “When did we decide the first time we try something new we should look amazing doing it and perform it perfectly?”
Read MoreAs we round out another year - it’s a great time to reflect on the past year and plan for the future year. Whether you make resolutions or not, with some time off for the holidays it’s conducive to contemplating!
Resolutions for me are often smaller and more of a to-do list and to finish list. The new year is like a fresh page in a new notebook - ready to be filled out. Not every page needs to be brilliant but the combined contents makes it all worthwhile.

Read MoreIn the early days of my Pilates teaching, if you had told me I needed to teach a reformer or mat class without c-curve I would have started to nervously sweat a little and certainly would have had a moment of “What I’m going to do to fill an hour without c-curve??” Now, after teaching Pilates for many years, I have more training and more tricks in my Pilates bag! I’ve pursued education in Pilates for rehab and chronic conditions, and I feel comfortable in these areas. I’ve also questioned the benefits of c-curve and when it may actually create more issue.
