The Gift of Movement

In the last 24 hours I’ve received startling news about two of my friends and college sorority sisters living in Lexington, Last night I received a text from another Lexington friend wanting to make sure I had heard the tragic news about our friend’s son. He’s a junior at the same college we went to, on the lacrosse team, and a good kid. Over the weekend while on a lacrosse trip he dove into the shallow end of the pool and broke his neck at the C4 vertebrae. He needs a miracle.

Nice to Meet You!

I’ve moved a few times and with that comes meeting new people. It can take a while to find friends and create a new social circle. I’m always delighted when a new friend or acquaintance invites me to a get together. It’s a chance to meet more people and get to know this friend better.

Sure, I took PE in high school and went on runs (they usually turned into walks), but I never had a real workout regime that I followed. Since I’ve been more independent in Lexington, I’ve made a bigger effort to improve my fitness and overall strength. Visits to the gym slowly became more frequent and, over quarantine, I familiarized myself with different at-home workouts on YouTube, like many others. Part of the reason I applied to intern with Lucie was that I wanted something to encourage me to keep working towards my goal! I’m a bit of a stranger to workout classes in general, but I had never dabbled in Pilates at all before this semester.

For a Reason!

Through my Pilates studies and training, I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many wonderful teachers and mentors. About six years ago I began following one particular Instructor and really gravitated to his approach to Pilates. I did an online workshop he offered. He came across as kind, knowledgeable, and compassionate. His style and mine when it came to designing a class were in sync.
